Work party at the Fifth Street Community Garden on Saturday from 10am to 2pm. Final preparations of the garden for the Grand Opening on May 21st.
Orientation for gardeners at the Vineyard Community Garden from 1pm to 3pm.
We had a busy weekend and made a lot of progress at the Fifth Street Communtiy Garden.
On Saturday, Mike Romero of Romero Contracting (360-452-5411) brought some heavy equipment and helped us strip the sod and level the parking area in preparation for the gravel.
Hank, Ed and Kim shifted the greenhouse out of the way of the heavy equipment.
Several volunteers turned up to help dig and flip sod along the front fence in preparation for the delivery of compost on Sunday.
On Sunday the sod digging and flipping continued. Lazy J Tree Farm delivered donated compost at 11.
Once the sod was flipped, volunteers got busy shoveling, dumping and raking the compost.
Meanwhile Ed and Hank worked on the front gate.
Here’s the inside and outside of the front fence with compost spread out. Flowers will be planted in front of the fence.
We’re having another work party at the Fifth Street Communtiy Garden on Saturday, May 7, from 10 AM to 2 PM. Let’s get the garden well-prepped for its first season! There’s something for everyone to do, and tools are provided, so please drop by.
Also, remember to mark your calendar for the Fifth Street Garden Grand Opening on Saturday, May 21, from late morning until early evening. Gardening classes will be offered at 11 AM. Stick around through the afternoon for food, music, door prizes, and a chance to choose your own garden plot! Formal opening ceremony at 3:00 PM.
